Dr. Seong-Hyon Lee
Adjunct Assistant Professor, Global Studies
Dr. Seong-Hyon Lee is a scholar and adviser whose work examines how international politics shapes security, business, and everyday life. He currently serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Global Studies at Bentley University, an Associate in Research at the Harvard University Asia Center, and a Senior Fellow at the George H. W. Bush Foundation for U.S.–China Relations. Most recently, he taught The New Cold War: Navigating U.S.-China Strategic Competition at Harvard Summer School.
In GLS 116: International Relations, Dr. Lee helps Bentley students connect foundational theories of world politics with contemporary dynamics of power, cooperation, conflict, and the global economy. He brings extensive experience advising senior executives at major technology and industrial enterprises on supply chains, export controls, and geopolitical risk. He has also provided strategic analysis to the South Korean government on economic statecraft and regional security.
Dr. Lee spent 11 years in Beijing and earned his Ph.D. from Tsinghua University, an M.T.S. from Harvard University, and a B.A. in Neuroscience from Grinnell College. He is fluent in English, Korean, and Chinese, and is the author of the book The New Cold War: U.S.-China Rivalry and the Future of Global Power (2025).
His teaching encourages students to question assumptions, evaluate competing perspectives, and construct clear, evidence-based arguments. Students can expect a dynamic classroom that links global developments to real-world strategic decisions while welcoming thoughtful inquiry and respectful disagreement.
