Teaching Interests

Corporate Governance; Technology, Innovation and Economic Performance; Graduate study tour courses in Ireland. Teach corporate governance in executive education as well as undergraduate and graduate levels. Present corporate governance seminars for professional organizations including the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD)/NE, The Boston Club, Directors' Summit at the Univ. of Wisconsin.

Research Interests

Research interests include the impacts of technology on jobs and economic development, women on corporate boards, and gender issues in business schools.

Her research has been funded by sources including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the U.S. Department of Education. Her work has been cited in a wide range of sources including: The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, Business Week, Time Magazine, The Economist, The Irish Times, the Chronicle of Higher Education, Accounting Today, and Financial Executive. Has appeared on NBC's Today Show and testified before Congress discussing the impacts of technology on jobs, workers and communities. Since 2003, has annually co-authored the Boston Club's Census of Women Directors and Executive Officers of Massachusetts Public Companies.

Consulting/Practice Interests

Currently serves on the Columbia Funds board with assets under management of over $300 billion; co-chairs the board's Investment Oversight Committee. For over 15 years taught the seminar on Creating and Managing Business Advisory Boards for AACSB-International. From 2011 to 2020, served as co-chair of the United Nations (UN) PRME (Principles for Responsible Management Education) Working Group on Gender Equality. Co-editor for six books in the PRME series: Two on Gender Equality, four on ESG and sustainability issues, more generally.

In 1993, with the support of AACSB-International, started a support group for women faculty and administrators in business schools around the world. The group offered workshops and seminars encouraging women to become deans and take on other leadership roles in business schools. The group is still active. In 2016, Pat became the first recipient of the Patricia M. Flynn Distinguished Women Leader in Business Education Award, an award now presented annually by the Women Administrators in Management Education at the AACSB International Conference and Annual Meetings (ICAM). Pat continues to write and speak on issues of gender equality in business schools.

Has written extensively on the impacts of technology on jobs and economic development, corporate governance and gender equality. Corporate and Mutual Fund director. Served 10 years as dean of the McCallum Graduate School of Business.
