Bio

Mary Marcel received her doctorate in Rhetoric from the University of California at Berkeley. She is the author of Freud's Traumatic Memory: Reclaiming Seduction Theory and Revisiting Oedipus (Duquesne University Press, 2005); This Era of Black Activism (co-edited with Edith Joachimpillai; Lexington Books, 2023); and The Architecture of Blame: The End of Victimage and the Beginning of Justice (Lexington Books, 2024). She has published in Business and Professional Communication Quarterly, the International Journal of Business Communication, Advances in Accounting Education, the Journal of Accounting and Finance, and the Journal of Education for Business, as well as Womens Studies in Communication, Law and Humanities, Proceedings of the Alta Conference on Argumentation, and the Cambridge Quarterly. She has published chapters in Local Violence, Global Media, RuPaul's Drag Race: Drag and Reality TV, and the Encyclopedia of Rhetoric and Composition: Communication from Ancient Times to the Information Age. 

Mary has delivered 71 papers at conferences of the National Communication Association, the Association for Business Communication, the Eastern Communication Association, the Central States Communication Association, the Southern Communication Association, the Alta Biennial Conference on Argumentation, the Society for Cross-Cultural Research, the Society for Business Ethics, and the International Conference on Religion and Spirituality in Society, as well as the American Accounting Assocation and the National Undergraduate Business Symposium.

Dr. Marcel is Head of the MLK 2026 Planning Committee. She serves on the Bentley partnership with the University of West Indies and with the African Esophageal Cancer Consortium. She founded Bentley's Annual Pride Breakfast in 1995.
