Bio

Teaches courses in International Relations, including US foreign policy, international security, and international relations for the Honors Program. Areas of current research and publications include: international relations theory, US foreign policy during the Cold War, the Global Cold War in Africa, political economy and foreign relations of Cabo Verde, and migrant transnationalism. Most recent publications include: Co-editor, Economic Growth and Democracy in Post-Colonial Africa: Cabo Verde, Small States and the World Economy (Lexington Books, 2022); “How Migrant Remittances Respond to Homeland Crisis: The Case of Cabo Verde and Its Migrants,” Journal of Contemporary African Studies (June 2024); and “US Policy and Portuguese Africa During the Nixon Years,” Cold War History forthcoming. He is currently working on a book on Cabo Verde's postcolonial foreign relations based on multinational archival materials. His first book was Neorealism, States and the Modern Mass Army (Cambridge University Press, 2007). He was a US Fulbright Scholar Program Fellow in 2024.
