
Dr. Brooks enjoys teaching sociology courses that explore social interaction and work practices across technology, society and work.
Dr. Brooks studies work practices and organizational processes that leverage digital technology. She uses qualitative research methods including ethnography and field studies to investigate these practices and processes. She has been Principal Investigator on three collaborative research projects ($2M total).
Dr. Brooks conducts applied research and consulting projects across engineering, environmental, governmental and healthcare sectors.
Jo Ann Brooks is an organizational sociologist who holds a PhD from University of Michigan in Public Policy (Organizational) Studies and an MS in Computer and Information Science from University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She worked as a software developer in a former life.
