Bio

Ipek Koparan is an Assistant Professor of Management at Bentley University, where she has been teaching since 2020. Her academic journey began with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Middle East Technical University, followed by a Master of International Business from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and a Ph.D. in Management from Kent State University in 2020. Before joining academia, she spent over a decade with the Turkish government, holding roles such as Chief of Department and Counselor to the Deputy Undersecretary, where she negotiated international trade agreements and developed bilateral trade policies.

Her research focuses on dynamic capabilities, entrepreneurial opportunity recognition, venture creation, decision-making under uncertainty, and strategic factor markets. She has published in journals such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Academy of Management Review, European Management Review, Multinational Business Review, Organization Management Journal, Strategic Change, and The Case Journal. Her work has received recognition including finalist honors for the Kauffman Best Paper Award in Entrepreneurial Cognition (Academy of Management, 2024) and the Strategic Change Best Paper Award in Entrepreneurial Decision Making and Behavior (European Academy of Management, 2024). She received the Distinguished Paper Award from the Strategy Division of the Academy of Management in 2021.

At Bentley, Ipek teaches Strategic Management and Global Strategy at both undergraduate and graduate levels. She also teaches Entrepreneurial Thinking and Management of International Operations.
